Danny Dyer’s Deadliest Men 2: Living Dangerously
Weekdays at 9pm, through March
In Danny Dyer’s Deadliest Men 2: Living Dangerously he attempts to get inside the minds and deep under the skin of more of the UK’s notoriously brutal and feared men – by living with them. Dyer has been granted unique access to some of the UK’s darkest and most compelling characters: urban gangsters, drug smugglers and bare-knuckle boxers.
Each episode he will be stepping into their shoes, living and breathing their day-to-day lives and sleeping in their homes as he attempts to see the world through their eyes. His aim is to not only understand the violence that these men have meted out, but also to question them on the morality of their actions. It’s his toughest assignment to date – has Danny, plucky as he is, bitten off more than he can chew this time?
Dyer will be sharing the lives of much-feared people like the Butlin Twins, part of Britain’s Mixed Martial Arts world cup team; and Mo Teague, AKA The Mechanic, a covert operations veteran who for a period was also official photographer for the royal family – while being involved in bank robberies at the same time.
MacIntyre’s Underworld
Wednesdays at 10pm, starting March 17th
This explosive documentary series sees undercover journalist Donal MacIntyre delve into the dark world of drugs, gangs and violence. Renowned for immersing himself completely in the lives of those he is reporting on, MacIntyre was the man behind the original exposé of some of the most notorious figures of the British crime scene, which was nominated for a Grierson Award (which recognises British documentaries) in 2005.
In this three-part series, MacIntyre revisits some of the crimelords he has met in the past – including Belfast loyalist Johnny ʻMad Dogʼ Adair (pictured) – to see whether they are still bound up in the criminal underworld, or have managed to break free.
Crime Invasion: Britain’s New Underworld
Thursdays 10pm
Bravo 2 highlights the dark side of life in the British Isles with an action-packed double bill of Crime Invasion: Britainʼs New Underworld this week. Presented by award-winning journalist Rageh Omaar, the show profiles some of the organised crime groups vying for power on Britain’s streets and examines the impact their activities have on ordinary citizens. The series also examines the role immigration plays in shaping the face of criminal Britain. Interviews with police, victims and gang members offer further insights into the top gangs, including where they operate and how they came into existence.
STREET CRIME UK
Weekdays at 7pm in March
Action-packed series which looks at how the police respond to street crime. Each episode focuses on different areas and problems including Carlisle police force dealing with a drunken brawl outside a nightclub, police in Peterborough dealing with two street fights which end with seven arrests and a party where police are called after a gatecrasher has threatened revellers with a knife.
Booze Britain
Mondays and Thrusdays at 9pm in March
Combining observational documentary with straight factual reportage, we look at the drinking patterns of young people in various towns, Booze Britain tots up the damage that excess drinking is doing to the nation. This national epidemic costs taxpayers a whopping £20 billion a year in healthcare and property damage, as well as the expense of policing the 1.2 million acts of alcohol-related violence reported annually. Booze Britain cameras follow groups of self-confessed bingedrinkers for a night on the town, as well as the emergency services, bouncers, bar staff and fast food purveyors who have to pick up the pieces after the evening’s exploits.
It’s scary stuff, but scarier still is how familiar it all is. These are real British towns and real British people: our friends, neighbours, workmates and sometimes even ourselves!
