February on Eden

Weekdays, 10pm (from Monday 1st February)

Hosted by Ed Leigh and Graham Bell, this eight-part, channel premiere series sees the hi-octane pair take on some seriously extreme snow-based and extreme-sporting challenges. In each episode of this powder-filled adrenaline fix, Ed and Graham take some of Britain’s bravest celebrities along for the ride.

The first episode sees Ed and Graham in New Zealand, attempting to cross between two of the country’s majestic mountain peaks using only a 100m length of rope. Jodie Kidd joins in and tries a spot of heliskiing.

Then it’s off to the Swiss Alps with actor Ralph Little for a spot of sky diving, and a marathon ski race with ex-England rugby internationals Jeremy Guscott and Brian Moore. Other episodes see Britain’s leading skeleton racers, Shelley Rudman and Kristan Bromley, prepare for a run down one of the most dangerous tracks in Europe and Ed and Graham lean about life-saving skills in the French Alps.

Monday 15th February, 8pm

For many years, big businesses – from oil and coal companies to electric utilities and car manufacturers – have resisted change to environmental policy and stifled the debate over climate change around the world.

Now, facing rising pressure from governments, investors and environmental groups, big businesses are being forced to reshape their approaches to climate change.

This UK premiere documentary investigates how businesses are repositioning themselves to prosper in a radically changed world and looks at how the world’s largest corporations and governments are dealing with Earth’s looming environmental disaster.

Journalist Martin Smith travels to 12 countries on four continents to ask first hand whether major corporations and governments are up to the challenge. Heat also features in-depth interviews with top policy makers and leading executives from many of the largest carbon emitters from around the world.

Planet Earth

The Earth is 4.5 billion years old, home to millions of species, both beautiful and deadly – sometimes both. It’s an extraordinary place to live. Welcome to Planet Earth.

Tribal wives, all this week at 8pm.

Who doesn’t dream of getting away from it all? Who doesn’t fantasise about finding a space in which to do some proper thinking, a place that can help us to get our priorities right? Six British women had this dream — only they went the extra mile to live it out. Well, thousands of miles, actually. For Tribal Wives, the women each spent a month with six of the world’s remotest tribes. Casting off the trappings of modern life, they immersed themselves in cultures that have hardly changed in centuries. The result was a fascinating series that challenges every preconception we have about ourselves.

Animal Fact:

Amazing Animals

There are 1.8 million identified species of animal on Earth and we haven’t stopped counting. Scientists estimate there may be as many as 30 million unidentified insect species alone, many of them living in rainforests.
